About

Hi — I'm Gloria.

Sedi Events is mine. I run it out of Soweto with a small team I trained myself, and I am usually the one who answers your WhatsApp.

The short version

It started with one machine and a school hall.

Most of what we do is for children who are five, six, seven years old — creche fun days, Grade R graduations, birthdays in a yard with the neighbours invited. That is a particular kind of job. The queue never forms neatly, somebody always drops theirs, and there is no such thing as serving fifty children slowly.

So we built for that. Four machines, so four queues move at once instead of one long one. A server on each, in uniform, so parents know at a glance who is staff. Everything made in front of you rather than the night before, because that is the only way to be certain of what a child is handed.

We are not the cheapest and I don't pretend to be. What I will do is tell you honestly what you need — including when that is less than you were about to order — and then turn up when I said I would.

The team

You'll know exactly who works for us.

White polo, pink logo, cap. Every person at your event is in the same uniform, and there is one on each machine so nothing is left unattended while somebody runs to fetch stock.

They are trained on the machines, on serving children, and on keeping a station clean while it is busy — which is the harder of the two.

  • One server per station
  • Branded uniform, always
  • Gloves on for every serve
The part parents ask about

Feeding other people's children

It is a responsibility, and it is the thing we are strictest about.

Made in front of you

Popped, spun and swirled on site. Nothing is prepared the night before and carried around in a box, which is where most problems start.

Machines cleaned between bookings

Stripped and washed after every event, not at the end of the week. The slush bowls and the soft-serve lines get the most attention because they need it most.

Gloves, and no shared scoops

Every serve is into its own box, cone or cup. Nobody reaches into a communal anything.

Tell us about allergies

Mention any allergy in the group when you book and Gloria will confirm exactly what is in each product before the day, rather than on it.

Ask me anything before you book.

I would far rather answer five questions now than have you unsure on the day.
